30.12.2008 [redthreat] ‘08 : SINGLES

Via Milk

As another year comes to it’s close it seems appropriate now to collect my favorite songs of 2008. Making these types of lists always proves to be much more of an arduous task than I plan for. It’s not only necessary to look back throughout the whole year, but to estimate what might come next and figure who is breaking molds and setting standards. Most of these songs are remixes because that’s what I like. Ultimately, all of these songs are here for the same reason. Because it is as hard for me to end this list as it was for me to start it, I am sure I left something out or fucked it up in some way or another, so I would love to hear your thoughts. The internet is an amazing thing; where some thought it would result in the fall of music, it really did quite the opposite; It created an endless sea of inspiration. Here are the tracks that really caught my ear..

01. Van She - Changes (G.L.O.V.E.S. Remix) [mp3]
02. The Energies - Born Again Runner (Fred Falke Edit) [mp3]

14.12.2008 The Color Green

Artwork by Andy Julia

Sometimes I wish I could just post up every Boards of Canada album ever created. But I’m afraid Warped Records would castrate me, so I don’t. On another note, I was reading their comments on their world guestbook, indicating who’s visited their site from where, and some girl in a nurses outfit said “your music makes me want to put a gun in my mouth- in a good way.” Lol. Check out this track if you have a chance..

It’s been a little bit since dropped, but Swedish producer and founder of Pickadoll Records, John Dahlback’s “Pyramid” is such a well done piece that I must revisit it. Aside from having universal appreciation throughout the dance music world, in October this year, Dahlback was on BBC’s Radio One with Pete Tong, and even more recently he announced a remix competition that you ended today. Click here for details. There will be four winners decided by genre that will be announced on December 22nd. I’m interested in seeing the results.. Big thanks to The Workout for the track!

John Dahlback - Pyramid

John Dahlback - Pyramid (Dirty South Remix)

John Dahlback - Out There (Ft. Basto Mix)

Been a while since I posted any Villains. Well, the west coast duo have been making some exciting things happen. They got together with Edison Gem and did a remix of their track “Things Change” that was featured on their latest EP. They were recently featured on Pitchfork. And a little while back they did a nasty remix of Datarock’s “Computer Camp Love” that I was finally greenlighted to post.

Datarock - Computer Camp Love (Villains Remix)

Since Resonator put me on to Goshi Goshi, I have been infatuated with their orignal, “The Lock Stock”. A recent sign to The Young Punx’ label, Mofo Hifi. If this song is any indication of what there is to come, I have a feeling we will be hearing a lot about ‘em. The track is insane.

Goshi Goshi - The Lock Stock

Though they refer to their own music as ’slaughterhouse’, anyone saying that Punk is dead needs some Metal on Metal blasted into their eardrums pronto. The Lithuanian trio are back with another remix that will rip out your spine and feed it to you, this time of a Polarkreis 18 track “Alein Alein”. These guys make angry, sick, twisted music. And I love it. Peep the latest rework and check out their new music video for “No Front Teeth” as well. And if you have another minute, I dug up an interview with the three of them on Lithuanian television that you might want to check out.

Polarkreis 18 - Allein Allein (Metal On Metal Instrumetal Remake)

Metal On Metal - No Front Teech (Less Metal Edit)

Mike Silver, or as you might better know him, CFCF, has put out some great work recently. What originally garnered my attention was his Presets remix of “Talk Like That”, a disco-oriented track that toned the semi-abrasive nature of The Presets into a wonderfully smooth and thoughtful track. Well, aside from putting out some music on the blogs, he has a 7″ coming out of “You Hear Colors”/”Invitation to Love” that you can preorder right now. It’s to be released on Acephale, and you can preview the tracks on CFCF’s Myspace page if these remixes below don’t sway you (though they should).

Femme - Bathtub Clash (CFCF Remix)

Genghis Tron - Recursion (CFCF Remix)

The Presets - Talk Like That (CFCF Remix)

Man, and while I’m posting the CFCF remix of The Presets, I can’t skip passed this Jence version without throwing it up there. Stil waiting for some new Digitalism tracks. Very eagerly.

14.12.2008 BeepBeat: Nuclear Winter Mix

Tonight’s feature is a mix that my buddy Beep sent over to me, titled BeepBeat’s Nuclear Winter Mixtape. I could intro the mix myself, but I think it’d be appropriate to have the creator explain it for himself:

When preparing this mix, I felt it was most appropriate to focus on the past. I grew up with Nick since the 4th grade, where we shared the same focus on music all the way through high school, trading the latest import CD’s and vinyl rips in homeroom. While I mostly focused on electronic and dance, we both shared a love for hip-hop. It’s awesome to know that he and I still are passionate for music and the scene.

At the time, while I mostly focused on all things electronic and dance, we both shared a love for hip-hop- and this mix does encompass a ‘ghetto-tech’ edge. Most of these songs also strongly indicate the reasons I started DJing and producing Drum’n'Bass for close to 7 years; The talkative, sinister, and ever-morphing basslines. The breaks and fills that provided a funk. The relentless energy. It’s all here, just 50 bpm slower. My mixing style frequently displays double drops, teases, the switching of bass- more evidence of my devoted love and respect for the genre…But onto the new…

After a year hiatus, it’s good to be back in the music world. Thanks to all my friends and family in New York, Boston, and Chicago for the continued support. Enjoy.

Artwork by Sergio Stefano

You might remember Kelevra from that sick Lee Mortimer ‘Funkstick’ remix that he put together. Instant classic. Well, Kelevra has some new stuff out on Potty Mouth that I am more than happy to share with you all: The Clean Jeans EP. Shit just dropped, so you know where you heard it first. Collaborating with artists Whiskey Pete and Nathan Boon, Kelevra turns it up a knotch with a fidget/hiphop blend that pushes the limits on dirty club stomping anthems. The EP also features remixes by Kyle Watson and BamBam. Here’s a few samples of all of that, as well as a Kelevra mixtape that I’ll throw ‘atcha. Extra credit to whoever can get me a copy of that ‘Hardcore Girls’ Heavyfeet remix. So tight.

Kelevra Ft. Whisky Pete - Clean Jeans

Kelevra - Clean Jeans (Kyle Watson Full Vocal Remix)

Kelevra & Nathan Boon - Like To Freak

Kelevra - Like To Freak (DJ Bam Bam Remix)

Kelevra Potty Mouth Mix

While on the subject, I’ve been talking to Whiskey Pete for a while now and have now found my window to throw down a few tunes of his that I like a lot. He’s an MC out of LA that has been setting up shop lately with more guest drops than you can shake a stick at. He’s collaborated with Dani Deahl for a track called ‘Poppin’ Bottles’ that I’ll get to you as soon as I’m green-lighted. He’ll also be on Calamity Jane with True Pseudo pretty soon, as well as being featured on a PalmsOut release with B-Rich. Then he’ll getting back together with Kelevra on the upcoming label Fidget Kingdom, and not to mention a project coming up with Breakdown to release more stuff on PBR. The man’s busy.

LAZRtag - The Score (Feat. Whiskey Pete)

The American Dream Team - Money VIP (Ft. Whiskey Pete & Andre Parnell)

Aaand.. Literally as I was writing this I received an email from The American Dream Team. Funny how that happens. A Brooklyn group, they make music and movies, they’re an audio-visual spectacle in the works! Check out the movie trailer if you have a minute. They describe their vision as a multi-sensory party experience, and though I haven’t witnessed it myself- I’ll take their word on it. Aside from a pretty slick collection of original tunes, they have a “Woah” remix that fits in nicely with all the other amazing renditions that I’ve heard the past few weeks.

The American Dream Team - Listen 2 The Music

Grum - WOAH (The American Dream Team Remix)

Let’s cool it down for a moment. A while back I stumbled across a Swedish producer who calls himself Sissy Ven. He’s off of Ovanbeck records and the track featured below is one of two on the self titled single. It’s a pretty deep tune, easy to fall into, bordering on a minimal wave but with a nice deep synthy backdrop to coast on. As of November, Ovanbeck label signs Pocketful, Heiko and Sissy Ven are all working on their next releases, and it turns out the Pocketful just released a new EP titled A Sparrow’s Mind a few weeks back. Check out Heiko’s stuff while you’re at it- I usually don’t go for a softer, rock inspired sound, but they wear it well.

Sissy Ven - April & May

Great news from Popular Computer the other day! The French producer/DJ came out with a full length titled Senso Data that I have been waiting for what seems to be forever now. The last we heard from him was the EP for the track Lost & Found with remixes by Shinichi Osawa and Pacific!. Do I need to even say any more? Can it really get any better than that? If you missed that EP, chances are you also missed a whole bunch of insanely good remixes including one for Lo-Fi-Fnk’s ‘Steppin’ Out’ that I absolutely adore, as well as Mylo’s ‘In My Arms’ and Pacific!’s ‘Sunset Blvd’. This is definitely a release worth picking up- or getting someone else for xmas! :)

Popular Computer - Darling

Lo-Fi-Fnk - Steppin’ Out (Popular Computer Remix)

You might remember me dropping a track by the UK group, The Slips, a while back. It was a remix of CSS‘ “Music Is My Hot Hot Sex” that was a real monster. Well, it looks like they’ve been busy in the studio concocting their latest single release Superbeat, featuring singles by Mirwais, Eddy-Temple Morris, Antichris and Streetlab. Here’s an enticing track that caught my attention, titled ‘Undiscovered’, as well as the track that was their breakthrough on the blogosphere, “This Time is Not Your Own”.

The Slips - Undiscovered

The Slips - This Time Is Not Your Own

So there are two Empire of the Sun tracks that I have been listening to over and over and over again. The first and foremost has to be the Neon Neon remix. Man did the LA electro outfit deliver on that one- an amazing remix with a haunting sense of urgency brought to the forefront of the production. The Timothy Marc version is one that my buddy Fritz turned me on to a day or two ago, and I am certainly appreciative of the heads up.  I really want to see EOTS blow up in 2009, headline a few festivals and get some serious buzz. I’m betting on a Coachella slot this year.

Empire of the Sun - Walking on a Dream (Neon Neon Remix)

Empire of the Sun - Walking on a Dream (Timothy Marc Remix)

So after the Jori Hukkonen remix of the Kid Cudi “Day ‘N Night” track that I put up a little bit ago, I thought that I would continue on the rediscovery of played out classics by tossing up the Jokers of the Scene remix. I really can’t get enough of their tracks, both originals and remixes.. As far as this track goes, I originally heard Flufftronix drop it at Debonair when he was in for a weeknight before heading out to the east coast. Great DJ. Fun night. Well here’s that, another pocket ace for any DJ wanting to throw a little changeup in their game. While I’m at it- Gotta throw down the Muscles remix they did. Can you go wrong with that combo? No.

08.12.2008 CSS Ticket Giveaway!

What a sick flier.

In a few days, CSS are arriving in the cold, cold city of Chicago to spice up the weekend a bit. Touring on the wake of their latest album, Donkey, they’re embarking from the west coast where they are currently doing a series of gigs before coming through Chicago and finishing up North America with four shows on the east coast. Then they’ll be heading to Australia. Aside from the trillions of blog hits they’ve accumulated in the past year or two, you probably heard them on that ipod commercial created by a kid then mastered by Apple. This is a show I’m excited for, it’s not everyday that you can see CSS in the midwest.

To celebrate, [redthreat] is hosting a ticket giveaway for our readers that will be semi-randomly selected. All you have to do is: Send me an email with a reason why you should get the tickets! The winner will be selected before the weekend hits, so get on it!

Quite a week lined up for us in Chicago. Tonight we have us The Twelves, in from Rio on a long overdue tour that graces Chicago for the Outdanced! party over at Sonotheque. And they’ll be playing with Yello Fever and Derek Specs. If you’re really in the know, you might have already seen the Twelves at Debonair last night doing a DJ set… But that’s neither here nor there. I was secretly hoping for a Lolla spot this year, but that’s another story. So tonight, after just talking to my boss about coming in late tomorrow morning, I am going to have a couple drinks and enjoy some good music. The Twelves will be heading west after their cold stay out here, hitting up Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas and Austin before heading back down to South America. So if you live out that way, check the tour dates! Oh, and big thanks to Palmsout for “When You Talk”! What an incredible song…

The Twelves - When You Talk

The Twelves - Works For Me

Zeigeist - Humanitarianism (The Twelves Remix)

Hey Champ - Cold Dust Girl (Yello Fever Refix)

Then tomorrow it’s right back at it- Sebastien Tellier will be at Schubas Tavern tonight, all the way from France. Though I usually know what I’m getting into heading to these gigs, I have a feeling that all my expectations will be out the window once he takes over. The guy defines the word musician. And not only is Sebastien Tellier going to be there, but opening up for him will be Chicago’s own Hey Champ! the band/dj duo that consistently raises the bar on the Chicago music scene. I got a chance to see their signing party at Angels & Kings and they burned it down, on a Tuesday, with Lupe Fiasco introducing them. Great night. Check the tracks out! I’ve been waiting for a good reason to post both those 80kidz & Yello Fever remixes. That Yello Fever joint posted above is ace.

Sebastien Tellier - Fingers Of Steel

Sebastien Tellier - Universe

Hey Champ - Early Sensation

Hey Champ - Cold Dust Girl (80kidz Remix)

Hey Champ DJs - Fallujah

Prairie Cartel - Cracktown (Hey Champ Remix)

Yeasayer - Sunrise (Hey Champ Remix)

03.12.2008 Calamity Jane Launch Party w/ The Glamour [12.05]

Dani Deahl tipped me off to a party she’s throwing on Friday at Debonair. It’ll be the launch party of Calamity Jane Recordings- Chicago’s latest electronic label headed off by Dani and Scott Richmond, in association with Strictly Rhythm. One of their first signs, The Glamour, who have become midwest dance party household names by now, are set to headline the night with bonus appearances by Willy Joy, Specs and of course, Dani herself!

If you haven’t checked out the Glamour’s debut EP, with remixes by Hatiras and Tommie Sunshine, you might want to do that. As for tomorrow goes, I’m pretty excited. Oh, and Calamity Jane is giving away fifty free gift bags to people wearing black & pink colors, and you’ll get reduced cover so long as you RSVP first. See ya there, folks.

03.12.2008 Yikes

Photography by Andreas Stavrinides

Work just gets the best of you. Coming home and not wanting to even glance at your computer screen. Buying new toys that replace old ones. Hot coffee to help you race towards the weekend. Weekends vanishing in a gluttonous, loudly abnoxious, overly crowded blend of incessant music and dancing. Blizzards. More long mornings. Annoying emails. Taxes. Reign checks. Cold weather. Gas prices. Etc.. But there’s a silver lining…

Heavyfeet dropped a free EP on their myspace page a little over two weeks ago that nobody has really picked up on. Along with an Autumn mixtape, the three tracks from the release are listed below. Talk about giving back to your fans, if only they bridged more oceans, I’d have much more appreciation. Tight little Jigga drops in those tracks, eh?
Heavy Feet - One Last Time

Heavy Feet - She Got It

Heavy Feet - We Gettin Crunk

Heavy Feet Autumn Promo Mix (sendspace)

Shit man, and while on the subject of PottyMouth, how could I not drop the new HiJack mixtape. I’d have to be some sort of monster or something. Here’s the November installment of his insanity. Enjoy, and if you like that, keep an eye out for more- he always seems to be dropping hot mixes.

Hijack - November Mixtape (zshare)

Let’s head back to LA for a minute. My man Mr Gaspar over at HotBiscuits threw me one of his latest tracks called “Calaca” that has a nice dancefloor bounce to it. Cold Blank is Gaspar and Big Nasty, whom I met in LA when I was last there, throwing down at a party in a hollowed out 99cents store. Shit was crazy. If you’re ever in the area check out SmashDisco, and keep an eye out for for their upcoming gigs (Las Vegas, San Diego, Portland, Maryland, and Washington DC) & releases on Beatport through Burn The Fire. Oh, and check their festival with Wolfgang Gartner out. Big things planned for those two.

Cold Blank - Marshmallow Man

Cold Blank - Calaca

I love Yuksek. Life just isn’t as exciting without his music, and in the brief periods in between his blogosphere highlights I am constantly searching for something to fill the void fruitlessly. New to this site? Go to HypeMachine and just search for his shit and delve into the classically trained, electro insanity that he unleashes with enough relative ease to make any producer jealous. Easily one of the reason’s why 2007 was the best year in music history, here’s a track that only bolsters the underground infamy of France’s pride & joy.

Tommy Sparks - I’m a Rope (Yuksek Remix)

It’s been a while since I’ve posted any of the Sweedish duo Pacific! or CSK OK. Let’s have the track below take care of that. Here’s a nice little piece called “Sunset Blvd” that caught my ear a little while ago. Keep a lookout for Pacific!’s album Reveries that just got dropped on Sidekick. I’m hoping these guys do a North American tour sometime soon. From the pictures that I’ve seen it looks like it’d be a blast. Doesn’t look like they’re even touring now, though. Bummer.

Pacific! - Sunset Blvd (CSK OK Remix)

More France on the way. Sebastien Tellier has been hitting all the right notes with these “Roche” remixes that I’ve been stumbling over like audio tripwires. A nice Kavinsky remix and a nice Breakbot remix to wash down your afternoon with. Oh, and if you happen to be in Chicago (or LA, San Fran, Denver, New York or Mexico City), you might want to check Tellier’s tour dates, because he’s coming to your city within the next week. On December 9th, he’ll be at Schubas Tavern with Hey Champ! for those of you in Chicago.

Sebastien Tellier - Roche (Kavinsky Remix)

Sebastien Tellier - Roche (Breakbot Remix)

One of the highlights from HARDfest on Halloween was definitely the track below. I can’t remember who dropped it, but I have a feeling that it was Boys Noize. It’s hard to tell considering how many amazing acts there were and the fact that it was Halloween and I was totally out of my mind. Great remix by Don Rimini here. OH! And Rimini will be in town on Friday at The Abbey Pub for those of you in my city. I’ll for sure be there.

Ray Parker Jr - Ghostbusters (Don Rimini Remix)

Little Boots are back on the radar with a nasty little remix done by a little-known bassgrinder named Joker. This track has all the melody and grit to sink it deep into my favorites for the year. Little Boots, aside from being a great band alone, has a vocalist who, along with other visionary remix artists, seems to blend well within many boundaries. “Stuck on Repeat” remixed by Fake Blood might very well be the best track of the year. I’m open for scrutiny going out on the limb here. But that track is literally that good.

Little Boots - Meddle (Joker Remix).mp3

Dolby Anol has been producing some great stuff in the past few months, the crown jewel, for me, being this tight little club jam appropriate for any floor I can think of. On “Dolby & Gabanna” he pulls out all the stops. The Futureheads remix that he worked up is another work that I like a lot, the best remix I’ve heard since the nasty nasty nasty Plimsouls edit that came around what seems to be forever ago… Great tracks here, looking forward to hearing more and more from the UK duo- check their myspace for an update of tracks and sets.

Dolby Anol - Dolby & Gabana (Cuz We Are Dolby Anol)

The Futureheads - Radio Heart (Dolby Anol Remix)

And let’s tone it down a bit, Sparkletone, that is. Lol. I never thought that I could ever get that corny. On a serious tip, however, Sparkletone is a buddy of mine in Chicago that throws down some serious tunes. This mix, titled “Brisk” is a disco blend that’s been rockin my car stereo for a minute now. Click for tracklisting.

Sparkletone - Brisk

Some sick Cut Copy shit that you probably haven’t heard yet? Yes please. Here’s one off of the up & coming Far Away EP, soon to drop in Australia. Not too shabby from the guys who easily have the best album of the year. Oh, and to top it off, let’s drop a little remix by the most anticipated Australian act there is right now: Damn Arms. Expect wonders to come from their direction in the next couple of weeks. I’ve been waiting so long. So very long. And the word on the street is that these guys are creating something we’ve never seen before. All that good music and it’s fucking Summer down there? WTF.

Cut Copy - Sands of Time

Cut Copy - Far Away (Damn Arms Remix)

I gotta give a shoutout to Neonized Magazine for this next one. Don’t know how I overlooked it in the Fools Gold sampler, but I did.. Sure we’ve all heard “Day ‘N’ Night” like a million times before, but this Jori Hulkkonen remix is doing everything for me right now. Compliments the vocals in an entirely different way than the Crookers remix that we are all so fond of. It’s a momentary pocket-ace for a dance floor, I’m guessing that most people haven’t heard this one yet.
Kid Cudi - Day ‘N’ Night (Jori Hulkkonen Remix)

11.11.2008 *cough*

Man. I’ve been sick as hell. Didn’t even step a foot outside my apartment over the entire weekend, and it sucks, giving me time to listen to music but not that much time to get out and enjoy myself. I did see the new Charlie Kauffman movie last night, though. Very moving. Other than that I haven’t done shit. But I guess I’ll have to make up for my downtime in a little bit here. I was thinking of going to the Kaiser Chiefs gig at Park West day after tomorrow. It’s been a while since I saw a good rock act. It’s been a while since I’ve had a drink..f

Kaiser Chiefs - Golden Skans (Klaxons Cover)

Friday there is the screening of the Jusice documentary with Eamon Harkan, Bald Eagle and Yello Fever at Smartbar. I’m gonna get my hands on the “Cold Dust Girl” remix that they did for Hey Champ. Tight piece. Also that night, Drop the Lime @ Sonotheque as well. . , and Subterannean brought in Kraak & Smaak, as well. Below are a couple of their tracks to check out if you haven’t heard of ‘em, you mighta heard that track I posted of theirs a couple of weeks ago, the remix of Junkie XL’s More, which I’m pretty fond of. Oh, and DJ Sega is gonna be at Debonair showing us how they do it in Philly. Somethin about a rave on Saturday, too. Not a bad start to the weekend if you ask me. There’s a party everywhere you turn; an eclectic whirlwind.

The last week has been one that I will remember for a while to come. A Tommie Sunshine disco dance party with free absolut vodka and Debonair.. A nice long weekend in LA with a Halloween party at HARDfest (check Cesar Sebastian’s photos for a glimpse of what happened).. The staggering triumph of Barack Obama to his rightful ascendency as President of our wonderful country.. I need a break. But not too long of one, because tomorrow night there are obligations.

Boston’s own Hot Pink Delorean will be doing a show with E6 & Roan and A-Cup of Rocktapussy Thursday, November 6th at Darkroom (2210 W Chicago Ave.). This will be the first Chicago appearance of Hot Pink Delorean and I’m pretty excited about it. Being featured previously on redthreat, they keep coming out with more gritty tracks that have solidified them as artists I will download the second I see a link. Still unsigned, the trio hit the blogosphere hard in the past year with original tracks and remixes of artists like MIA, The Glass, Katy Perry and Totally Michael. As for tomorrow- there are great beer deals that night, and the cover is only five bucks if you RSVP to DPM@crossfaderking.com. Just leave your name and number in the email and you’ll be set. Also, HPD be finishing up their midwest stay in both Cincinatti and Cleveleland in the next few days, so if you’re in that neck of the woods you should check ‘em out.

Hot Pink Delorean - Freak Night

OBAMA!

Obama Wins Iowa: Why Everyone Has a Reason to Celebrate
By Arianna Huffington of The Huffington Post

Because tonight voters decided that they didn’t want to look back. They wanted to look into the future — as if a country exhausted by the last seven years wanted to recapture its youth.

Bush’s re-election in 2004 was a monument to the power of fear and fear-mongering. Be Very Afraid was Bush/Cheney’s Plans A through Z. The only card in the Rove-dealt deck. And it worked. America, its vision distorted by the mushroom clouds conjured by Bush and Cheney, made a collective sprint to the bomb shelters in our minds, our lizard brains responding to fear rather than hope.

And the Clintons — their Hillary-as-incumbent-strategy sputtering — followed the Bush blueprint in Iowa and played the fear card again and again and again.

Be afraid of Obama, they warned us. Be afraid of something new, something different. He might meet with our enemies. His middle name is Hussein. He went to a madrassa school. A vote for him would be like rolling the dice, the former president said on Charlie Rose.

And the people of Iowa heard him, and chose to roll the dice.

Obama’s win might not have legs. Hope could give way to fear once again. But, for tonight at least, it holds a mirror up to the face of America, and we can look at ourselves with pride. This is the kind of country America was meant to be, even if you are for Clinton or Edwards — or even Huckabee or Giuliani.

It’s the kind of country we’ve always imagined ourselves being — even if in the last seven years we fell horribly short: a young country, an optimistic country, a forward-looking country, a country not afraid to take risks or to dream big.

Bill Clinton has privately told friends that if Hillary didn’t win, it would be because of the two weeks that followed her shaky performance in the Philadelphia debate.

But it wasn’t those two weeks. Indeed, if we were to pinpoint one decisive moment, it would be Bill Clinton on Charlie Rose, arrogant and entitled, dismissive and fear-mongering. And then Bill Clinton giving us a refresher course in ’90s-style truth-twisting and obfuscation — making stuff up about always having been against the war, and about Hillary having always been for every good decision during his presidency and against every bad one, from Ireland to Sarajevo to Rwanda.

So voters in Iowa remembered the past and decided that they didn’t want to go back. They wanted to move ahead. Even if that meant rolling the dice.

Again, this moment may not last. But, for tonight, I am going to savor it — and cross my fingers that it may stand as the day that fear as a winning political tactic died. Killed by an “unlikely” candidate — as Obama called himself again and again — who seized the moment, and reminded America of its youth and the optimism it longs to recapture.

Does it get much better than that? Maybe with a five doller PBR + Jameson shot deal to wash that all down with. It all goes off downstairs at Debonair Social Club from 10-2. It’s 21 & up and the show is freeeee. RSVP on Going.com or hit up the facebook page. Join the movement.

29.10.2008 HARDfest Halloween [LA]

Thursday night I embark on a journey back to LA, the city of smog [scenesters, hipsters, sneakers, blogs] for a haunted halloween party at HARDfest. There will be much peril, dancing, drinking and general insanity. I might come back a changed person. Looking at the lineup, I can almost guarantee either something incredible, or something incredibly awful will happen to me. Nothings for certain. So tomorrow, I’m gonna fly into LA and occupy my time in traffic, meeting up with some of my buddies that live out there, grabbing a drink & a smoke. Trying to relax, I guess. If anyone knows some fly shit that I oughtta be doing on Thursday night, I’m all ears. Email me, or leave a comment and I’ll hit you up. We’ll get down. Wait… just got updated. Treasure Fingers at Dance Right. My god- that was fast.

Calling In Sick - Cali Games

Friday I’ll meet up with Beats. Yeah, he’s going too! That night I want to be at the show around 9PM for 2ManyDJs. I’ve only seen the Soulwax Nite Versions act of theirs, so I’m pretty stoked to see it back down to the basics. Simian Mobile Disco will be on at 10:40 after that and judging by the small and large gigs at Empty Bottle and Coachella ‘08, I’m expecting the world here. Soulwax right after that. It’d take the end of the world to keep me from seeing that set. Then over to Justice. Now I’ve seen Justice 4 or 5 times in the last year, and though they’re awesome, no doubt, I’ve only been able to see the Crookers once and that was pretty damn cool, so halfway through the set I’ll make my way over to that stage for some fidget.

MGMT - Kids (Soulwax Remix)

Outhere Brothers - Enjoy (Crookers Remix)

Boys Noize will be stomping the life out of the Trick or Treat stage right after that, so I’ll be over there. And then I’ll head back to the Expo stage for Deadmau5 to close it all down. Someone told me he’d have a pumpkin head this time around. Just thought I’d share that with you. That’s the plan, and that’s probably the best 5 hours of live music that I can imagine ever having the chance to see in consecutive order. Have a ticket? Sweet! See ya there. Waited too long? Sucks to be you- it’s sold out.

Late Of The Pier - Focker (Boys Noize Terror Remix)

Saturday night, I’ll be over at the SmashDisco event featuring Classixx, Mr Gaspar, Big Na$ty, DMNDays, Dskotek, DJ Diamond and… drumroll please… BEATS! That’s right, dropping in from the Windy City to represent how it should be done. The party’s at The Disco Warehouse, 5031 York Blvd. and the cover is ten bones, five if you RSVP on Going.com. Here’s a sick Classixx track, check the site in a little bit for an exclusive Gaspar track as well. ;)

CLASSIXX - Cold Act Ill (Extended Mix)
